Harry MacDonald lived in Merigomish, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. He followed in the family tradition of working at a general store there called the MacDonald Bros General Store. His first job in the store was driving a pickup truck to carry Atlantic salmon from the wharves of Pictou and Antigonish. Later he would come to run the store as his father and his uncle had done before him.
